The South Platte River rich in history, formed in the South Park grassland basin passes through the Platte and Waterton Canyon emerging from the foothills southwest of Littleton and eventually flows into Chatfield Reservoir and on through the Denver metropolitan area. Used by more than 700,000 visitors annually, the Mary Carter Greenway, South Platte River corridor, includes an eight-mile multi-use trail and whitewater boating facilities. Our vision not only benefits trail users, but continues to enhance the natural features and wildlife that coexist in such a complex urban environment. Not just for humans, this natural transportation corridor benefits important wildlife such as migratory birds, foxes and raccoons spotted frequently along the river and trails. Watch out for those traffic jams!
